Gustavo Dudamel Will Take Over the New York Philharmonic

Gustavo Dudamel, orchestral music’s global icon of Southern California cool, is moving to New York — eventually. In coordinated announcements on opposite coasts just now, Dudamel told the players of the Los Angeles Philharmonic that he would be stepping down as music director. At the same moment, New York Philharmonic president Deborah Borda announced that Dudamel had accepted the job as that orchestra’s artistic director. The new regime won’t start for a while; popes and presidents are chosen more quickly and casually than maestros are.

Guy Ritchie Goes Brutally Posh

Every line out of Henry Cavill’s mouth in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare goes something like “Cheerio, lads, jolly good to have you aboard, now let’s not find ourselves in a spot of bother,” at which point he takes out a machine gun and mows down a row of Nazis. Cavill plays Gus March-Phillipps, an actual member of Winston Churchill’s Special Operations Executive who led a top-secret mission to take out a ship key to keeping German U-boats supplied in 1942.

Guy Ritchie Movies, Ranked

This list was originally published in 2021. It has been updated to include Guy Ritchie’s most recent films. It is honestly difficult to come up with a modern filmmaker with a weirder, almost nonsensical, career than Guy Ritchie’s. How in the world does the person who made Snatch and Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels even live on the same plane of human existence as the person who made Aladdin?

On Saturday night at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom, Stefani previewed the LP by debuting “Used to Love You,” a midtempo synth-pop ballad that includes the line, “You thought there were no boundaries,” followed by an unambiguous scene of someone backing out of a driveway with a suitcase.

Actress Scarlett Johansson attends the “Hitchcock” New York Premiere at Ziegfeld Theater on November 18, 2012 in New York City. Florida’s Christopher Chaney received a ten-year prison sentence on Monday, having pleaded guilty to hacking into celebrity e-mails and spreading their nude photos online. Chaney’s self-described addiction affected Scarlett Johansson, Mila Kunis, Christina Aguilera, and dozens more. “I don’t know what else to say except I’m sorry. This will never happen again,” Chaney said in his sentencing.

Hamiltons Daveed Diggs Joins Black-ish for Major Arc

Daveed Diggs. After winning a Tony and leaving Hamilton, what will Daveed Diggs do for an encore? A lot of things, but now, also, Black-ish. Variety reports that Diggs will play Johan, brother of Tracee Ellis Ross’s Rainbow, in the ABC family sitcom in what is apparently “a major season three arc.” In the words of creator Kenya Barris, Diggs’s character is “sort of a hipster, entitled kid who gets on Dre’s nerves.

Harrison Ford Was High as Shit on Conan Last Night

Before Reggie Watts killed it on Conan last night, Harrison Ford showed up in a state that can only be described as being fucked out of his mind. Seriously, have you ever seen someone so clearly on drugs before in your life? There is literally no other explanation for this other than that he’s picked up a late-in-life case of Autism. But that seems unlikely, doesn’t it? I just wanna know what Han Solo is on here.

Harry Styles Didnt Credit Lucius on Treat People With Kindness When Duo Asked

Lucius wants to be, well, treated with kindness after Harry Styles used uncredited vocals by the duo on his song “Treat People With Kindness.” Lucius, who released the new album Second Nature on April 8, told the Los Angeles Times Styles didn’t give them a feature credit on the song after they asked. As the band tells it, Styles originally asked them to sing when they were working on a different song.

Harry Styles Mightve Had One of the Greatest Onstage Falls of All Time

One Direction kicked off the North American leg of their Zayn-less new tour last night in San Diego. So maybe first-night jitters are to blame for what happened to poor Harry Styles during the show: In the middle of “Through the Dark,” Harry had what might just be one of the most inexplicable and hysterical stage falls of all time: Yep, that’s Harry Styles killing his impression of every drunk uncle at Christmas.
